From June 26 to June 30, 2024, teacher Liu Xuying from the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute of Shaoxing University of Arts and Sciences went to Fengshu Forest Farm in Jingdezhen, Jiangxi to carry out an investigation experiment on forest vertical structure. In a forest farm sample plot, a limited space anti-collision UAV measurement system and a hand-held 3D LiDAR scanner were used to measure the understory space of a number of artificial Chinese fir trees and mixed Chinese fir trees. The experiment was supported by the "Research on Structure Regulation Technology of Fir and Broad Mixed Forest" project of the National "14th Five-Year Plan". In cooperation with the Institute of Subtropical Forestry, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, the experiment collected the 3D information of the canopy and understory, the multi-spectral information of the canopy and the spatial location of the forest land in the local forest farm.
In mountainous forest land, especially in areas with complex environment and difficult operation, compared with traditional forestry survey means, the use of advanced mapping technology such as LiDAR can effectively improve the investigation efficiency and obtain comprehensive and accurate forest structure information. The obtained data will be used for the research of multi-modal data fusion and single tree segmentation recognition algorithm, as well as the inversion of key parameters of DBH of different tree species and understory higher structure, which is an important attempt of artificial intelligence-enabled forestry research.
