We are thrilled to announce that the proposal for the ISPRS Educational and Capacity Building Initiative submitted in 2023 by Professor Saeid Pirasteh from the Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Shaoxing University, has been successfully approved and granted for CHF 10,000! in 2024. The project, titled "Empowering Education and Capacity Building Focusing on Natural Disasters Based on GeoAI and Computer Vision," has now been granted for implementation. Based on the results of these reports and on a submitted request, the Council may grant a continuation of the project in the next years.
The primary aim of this project is to provide educational and capacity-building opportunities to ISPRS members, students, researchers, engineers, practitioners, and planners, enabling them to excel in the fields of photogrammetry, Geospatial Artificial Intelligence (GeoAI), digital twinning, digital infrastructure, remote sensing, and spatial information sciences.
This initiative marks a significant step forward in leveraging cutting-edge technologies to address challenges related to natural disasters by applying GeoAI. With a focus on GeoAI and Computer Vision, our team is poised to make meaningful contributions to the field of disaster management.
The project is international and will collaborate with international experts and colleagues from various countries and the United Nations University. This International GeoAI Collaboration (IGC) will focus on a specific and exceptionally complex problem: identifying and sharing the lessons and practices developed by a globally dispersed array of experts to leverage the resultant knowledge to solve our most pressing societal and environmental needs.
We extend our gratitude to ISPRS for recognizing the potential impact of this project. We also appreciate the international team involved in this project. The approval is a testament to the dedication and expertise of our team members.
Stay tuned for updates as we embark on this exciting journey towards empowering education and building capacities for a resilient future.
